Since the late 1990’s the Rockland Yacht Club has held an annual race on the Saturday closest to the longest day of the year. Aptly named the Solstice Race, this event is held around government marks in West Penobscot Bay. Racers can look forward to friendly, spirited competition, and a chance to knock the rust from sailing skills and reflexes dulled by our long Maine winters. Trophies will be awarded to main and jib sailors as well as two divisions of boats using spinnakers and you have a recipe for loads of fun. This is the reward for those who get their boats in early, and come out to mix it up!
All sailors are welcome! There will be three PHRF divisions -splits will be announced on race day. The Racing Rules of Sailing, 2021-2024 will govern this series. Registration links are below. A current valid 2021 PHRF certificate is encouraged. If you do not have one you will be given the base rating for your boat as per PHRF-NE no exceptions! The outdoor skippers meeting at 10:00am is for ONE person per boat with a mask, please. The first warning signal will be at approximately 11:30am. The race has a planned elapsed time of 3-4 hours. Registration is required and early registration is encouraged. The link to Registration Form, Sailing Instructions and Notice of Race can be found below.
