Casual Racing on Thursday Nights

Attention Cruisers/Racers

Rockland Yacht Club Announces New Series

Rockland Yacht Club is pleased to announce that it will be starting a new informal racing program open to everyone including boats that are not members of RYC on Thursday nights. Beginning on Thursday night, June 23rd informal racing will commence starting inside the breakwater with the first warning gun at 5:15PM (1715). The race will be designed to be 1-1.5 hours in length with a Barbeque to follow at The RYC Clubhouse. We hope to run these roughly every other week in July and August depending on the interest. More to follow on the next races.

We want to stress that these are informal and are meant to be really fun events. It is a good time to get family and friends out on the water to enjoy sailing, camaraderie and informal competition. There will be a timed start with the courses designed to be out and around one or two marks and back to the finish. These will be longer legs and may not be the traditional windward-leeward or triangular courses of typical racing events, so sail handling is minimized. PHRF certificates are not needed as there will be no formal scoring. Times will be kept if anyone wants to figure how they did within their ratings, but RYC will not be scoring these races. There will be no charge for the racing as these are designed for everyone, large boats/small boats, racers and cruisers alike just to go and have a good time and enjoy sailing against old and new friends alike. We hope you will come out and enjoy the sailing, it will be fun!
